Art of the Plains Indians: Circa 1800s

Silver Bear Gallery

Silver Bear Gallery is dedicated to the art of Glen Petersen who specializes in creating full scale and reduced scale (one-third to one-fourth size of the original) versions of Plains Indian clothing and objects that were used in the 1800s.  Mr. Petersen is a retired business executive whose family collected this type of artifact during the period 1950-1970.

Although Native American pottery and rugs have long been recognized for their artistic quality, clothing and other artifacts have only recently been viewed in this perspective.  This work is a tribute to the artistry of the Plains Indians of this period.

Mr. Petersen uses real hides, horse hair, human hair, shells, and beads to create this artwork and the designs are based on historical artifacts.  The result of this effort is a visual experience that one could only gain by visiting a museum or view in a private collection.

Through the work and dedication of Mr. Petersen, this visual experience can now be enjoyed at home or in the office.  This artwork can be purchased as originals or as limited edition giclees.
